Thursday Night Date

Our "Thursday Nigh Date" has changed greatly over the past couple of years. The early relationship standard of dinner and movie was replaced with a homebound communion of sorts. We used to enjoy going to Happy Hour and bringing along Scrabble or Backgammon. We thought ourselves quite the exciting couple with our own table games in tow. Others would have to make due with simple conversation or the ubiquitous television broadcast. We were engaged in a hunt for the a triple letter score. With the advent of Amelia, it is much easier to give into our natural tendencies towards being homebodies.

We still go out as a family from time to time, but it is becoming far less frequent. Whenever we do go out for dinner, or in the case of this week, graduation parties, Amelia generally reminds us both of why there has been such a long interim period. She's not particularly naughty or bad. She doesn't throw huge fits or scream wildly. She's just a year and a half and that's what toddlers do. In fact, we are celebrating her half birthday today. The past 18 months have been filled with such joy, but I don't know if Thursdays will ever look the same.

Sarah and I will still attempt to watch a movie from time to time. My wife can suffer from insomnia when she has a lot on her mind. The only thing that seems to help is putting a movie on. I don't know the last movie where she saw the final credits. I can't seem to finish most books I start and Sarah can't finish any movies.

Thursday nights kick off my Sabbath and perhaps, in keeping with the traditional meaning, this is our time to doze off early. We need the rest. We need the strength to keep up with Amelia. She is 18 months today. In a blink of an eye she will be 18 years and we will be the ones hosting the graduation party at our home.
